1959 Sports Racer
Registration No. 495 DUP
I discovered this Sports Racer story on the internet and was very surprised to see that it was being restored in Japan.
This was in February 2014.
I have to own up to a bit of deception regards this car,
it's a Falcon Mk II by name, not an Ashley, although the original design was of course an Ashley design.

The Shuriya website was very pictorial and some of the pictures I have reproduced on this webpage with Masataka Naganuma's permission.
I am however a bit confused by their website, it seems to show two restorations for the same car and communication with
Masataka Naganuma is difficult.
I checked the UK registration and found that it is still registered until October 2015, also noticed that it was originally registered as
having a Yellow body colour.

The first restoration (Part 1) shows a Dark Blue body colour from what I assume was a previous restoration before arriving in Japan,
it has also at some time had a motor change from
a 950cc to a Ford 1600cc (KENT) engine.

The following photo's are all part of the first restoration.
I have placed them in an order that appears to me to be as it progressed.
Keep an eye on the position of the Bonnet Bump.

These next photo's appear to be the second restoration (Part 2) that took place directly after the first restoration (Part 1).
From the website it appears that Masataka Naganuma wasn't happy with the look of the car and decided to have another go at it,
making a more personnel statement and look,
while upgrading the electrics and mechanics of the car further.
It's interesting to note that somewhere, maybe in UK or elsewhere,
the bonnet hatch has been glassed in and the whole front of the
car cut from the main bodyshell to produce a
forward tilting bonnet, similar to the Ashley 1172 and Sportiva.
In the emails from Masataka Naganuma, he told me that the car was from UK and that it was sold to a local from Gifu, Japan.
I have seen the photo's below of the car at a the
2003 Gifu Classic Car Meeting
they show the car before the restorations and maybe as being new to the location, so maybe just after arriving in Japan.
Which makes me wonder who is keeping the DVLA registration upto date???
